It’s a ’94 Chevy Suburban, 160k miles, with the vertical doors in the back as opposed to the tailgate option. It has a towing package and associated wiring harness. Bypassing this harness doesn’t fix the problem. When I turn on the headlights, the tail lights do not come on, yet the brake lights all work fine. I checked all fuses, including the one corresponding to the tail lights, and they were all intact. The tail light bulbs are interchangeable with the brake lights so I swapped bulbs to make sure all of the bulbs worked. I was thinking about running a wire from the ground on one of the bulbs to the frame and see if that works.
Butterfly doors, also known as vertical door or lambo doors, originated to solve a problem. The Lamborghini had a very wide base, and a traditional door design would not allow for easy entering and exiting, especially if parked next to anything. They devised a door hinge system that lifts the doors vertically, and only slightly out war, clearing the door of the opening, and also allowing the wide body car to still fit in traditional spaces.
These doors catch a lot of attention. When door open vertically, you get the "butterfly" effect, making waves wherever you are. People stop and notice these types of modifications because they are rare, unique, and very appealing.
