what is O/D button on my 2002 Ford Explorer's gear handle!!!?
Does anyone know what is that O/D button on my 2002 Ford Explorer's gear handle!!!
I've just got the car and i didnt get the chance to ask anyone.
To be more correct. The button on your shifter is the overdrive OFF button. At speeds below highway speeds it is better and more efficient to have the the overdrive off. If your traveling down a road 30-45mph with the overdrive on, your transmission will be constantly locking and unlocking the torque converter. If you have the overdrive off, the transmission will be one gear lower (drive as opposed to overdrive), but it will be better able to keep the torque converter locked. You will also get some engine breaking when the overdrive is off. That makes it better to regulate your speed at the lower speeds. It won't keep running away from you when your trying to do 30, so you won't have to keep tapping the brakes to slow it down. Don't worry about it being less fuel efficient to not have the overdrive on, as it is only more efficient at highway speeds. What is less efficient is having the torque converter unlocked. Just because your engine rpm is a little higher doesn't necessarily mean it will be using more fuel. It may actually be more efficient because it is running with a little wider throttle opening, so it is getting more air and a better burn.
Also, if you do any towing, it is recommended to have the overdrive off. It will say so in the manual. I'm am sure they would void the warranty if something happened to your transmission if it quit while you were towing a 35ft travel trailer.

DO YOU LIKE WOMENS BUTTON FLY JEANS?
For as long as I’ve known there are two types of jeans: zipper and button fly. Both men and women can choose from the zippered or button variety. Womens button fly jeans are really very comfortable. Why do people even wear button fly jeans when there are zippered jeans to choose from?
If you lived a hundred years ago then button fly would be your only choice. The zipper is a new invention. As is so often the case when zippers were introduced the button fly flew out the window. It lingers today on the fringe of fashion, maybe it is just a statement kind of thing. You know, wearing women’s button fly jeans has certain above the norm mentality, or fashion statement: kind of like the feeling that celebrities project even when walking in the park in a baseball cap and t-shirt. Normal people wear comfortable, normal jeans. Whereas celebrities wear clothes that look normal, but cost exorbitant amounts of money.
Perhaps, it is actually a matter of preference. Maybe people like the look of women’s button fly jeans. Or maybe they prefer the feel of them. If you were to take the comfort route of womens button fly jeans, would they really be more comfortable? These are of course a personal preference, but let’s just ponder it for a moment. I’m thinking of the person who has to lie on the bed to completely put on their pants. For zippered jeans, you have to grasp the zipper handle and tug it upwards. The teeth of the zipper are pulled together against gravity to achieve closure. With button fly jeans, the same has to happen, but you are only putting together 4-5 button holes. You still have to fit all the body into the jeans, but perhaps it is a bit easier.
