Ford Body Kit Truck
How much for a suspension lift?
I have a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT 2wd. With my deployment overseas coming up, I expect to have a fair amount of cash on hand that I would like to spend on a 3"-4" suspension lift on my truck.
Body lift won't do for me, since my suspension is stiff as it is, so I was planning on swapping it out anyways.
So all things told, how much would it cost, generally, to buy a kit and have it installed?
Or, how difficult is it to install on my own? I'm still in the amateur stages of my automotive knowhow, but I have a good amount of tools in my garage that I may have what it takes to do it on my own.
A suspension lift will most likely make your truck ride stiffer.
Let a pro install the kit no matter what kit you use since you have limited knowledge. Anyway, suspention lift will require some job specific tools which I'm sure you don't own. A Ford suspension lift kit is the hardest one to install due to the twin I-beam suspension up front. It has to be relocated for proper wheel geometry. This can be a pain, even with a frame lift, which is a must when doing a spring lift.
I will recommcoupleody lift for a number of reasons....cost, ease of installation, etc. A 4" body lift on your Ranger isn't a great idea. It will make problems with the steering (angle of the steering column), possibly brake lines, and a couple of other things which would be better left alone. Since the common reason for lifting a truck is to gain tire clearence, a 3" body lift will work out fine.
You'll thank me for this advice later....or you could mail a check for $250 to... (just kidding) Good luck and thanks for your service to our country !
